The annual Day of Caring event is organized by United Way of Sonoma-Mendocino-Lake (UW-SML). This event enables employees from companies in Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake Counties to volunteer for the day at UW-SML participating agencies and other non-profit agencies in the community. Types of projects include packaging food, delivering meals, painting, construction, clerical work, and yard work. As a result of these efforts, the agencies are able to focus a greater percentage of their time and energy on direct client services. In 2007, nearly 1,000 volunteers donated approximately 5,800 hours to nonprofits groups in the tri-county area.
Each year, Women’s Recovery Services has benefited from the kindness and support of Day of Caring volunteers who come to the organization and provide valuable time and skills to help us maintain and improve the facility. Agilent Technologies, Inc. employees; as well as many other fine organizations in our community, have helped WRS to keep our operation running, saving thousands of dollars in annual maintenance and repair costs. This year, The Home Depot in Santa Rosa also made a generous donation to help defer some of our material costs.
